German Protestant Kirchentag

Berlin - Wittenberg 24 to 28 May 2017

Welcome to the German Protestant Kirchentag - from 24 to 28 May 2017 in Berlin and Wittenberg. Tens of thousands will flock from all over to the capital and to Wittenberg for the celebration. Experience community beyond denominational and religious boundaries, enjoy church services and listen to concerts, with the opportunity to participate in passionate and honest political debate.

2017 is a special year - 500 years of the Reformation in Germany, Europe and across the globe. The international ecumenical community, the inter-religious dialogue and a glimpse into the next 500 years of Protestantism are the topics here.

The Kirchentag in this year of celebration will be a civic forum that goes far beyond a church event. Over 2000 individual events will be dedicated to both the area of politics and to living together with people in peace and harmony. On podiums, in debates, at lectures and workshops, prominent speakers will outline the topics of this huge lay gathering with plenty of public participation.

The highpoint of this Kirchentag and those on the Way 2017 will be the festive service on the banks of the Elbe outside Wittenberg. We’re already fascinated by the idea: thousands of worshippers will converge on Wittenberg, celebrating the Lord's Supper together, singing songs and listening to brassbands at the symbolic origin of the Reformation.

Ellen Ueberschär, the General Secretary of the Kirchentag is convinced: "It all promises to be an unforgettable experience, which is why I recommend you keep 24 to 28 May 2017 free in your calendar - for the German Protestant Kirchentag in Berlin and Wittenberg. We look forward to seeing you!"
